PARTNER
Responsibilities of individual partners vary from servicing clients to internal administration. Some partners specialize in research and review, and some in practice development. Others have technical and industrial specializations. Most departments in operating offices are administered by a partner.
PRINCIPAL
Principals have a status equivalent to that of partners. The rank of principal is awarded to tax or management advisory services specialists who are not CPAs.
MANAGER
Responsibilities of managers are similar to those of partners and principals. Most managers have primary client responsibility, and, in some cases, a manager is assigned to manage a department in an operating office.
SUPERVISOR AND SENIOR CONSULTANT
Working under managers and partners, the supervisors and senior consultants conduct several client engagements simultaneously, maintaining secondary contact with clients.
An audit supervisor directs the field work on an audit engagement. The supervisor is also in charge of on-the-job training of all staff members assigned to the engagement.
Tax supervisors plan and review all tax matters generated from a group of clients. Assignments require research and preparation of memorandum on tax problems and client representation at Internal Revenue Service examinations.
Supervisors and senior consultants assigned to management advisory services plan and conducts MAS engagements of all sizes. They supervise and schedule personnel, and they evaluate and report on the progress of the engagements.
Senior consultants also direct the technical aspects of the assignment.
IN-CHARGE ACCOUNTANTS
The direction of an engagement is assigned to an in-charge accountant. The in-charge accountant is responsible for the proper performance of field work, reporting and reporting progress to the partner or manager designated as account administrator.
The in-charge accountant conducts the field work on smaller audit assignments, planning, directing, and completing the assignment. The in-charge accountant also supervises the on-the-job training of staff accountants working on the assignment. On larger audit assignments, the in-house accountant executes the field work under the direction of a supervisor.
Senior tax specialists review tax returns, prepare certain specialized returns, conduct research and prepare memorandums dealing with tax matters. Senior tax specialists are also given responsibility for less complex Internal Revenue Service examinations.
Consultants on the regional management advisory services staff either assist or conduct engagements in specialized disciplines. Consultants work with clients to solve problems relating to accounting, data processing, production and inventory control, personnel, and organization.
STAFF ACCOUNTANTS
Working under close supervision, staff accountants execute audit assignments in the areas of cash, receivables, inventory, fixed assets, payroll, and expense analysis.
Tax specialists working under the supervision of a senior tax specialist or supervisor prepare tax returns and conduct research required for preparation of technical memorandum.
